Heart of Nature Flower Energy Cards Steve Johnson 9780963558435 Books Reviews

I have been reading tarot, mostly for myself but occasionally for clients, for over 15 years. I find it to be an excellent way to gain clarity on situations where I'm just too emotionally involved to be able to see with any perspective. When I do a reading, I will sit with the cards for a few moments and focus on my question. I keep the question in my mind as I shuffle the cards and lay them out in a spread.

When I received the flower energy cards from the Alaskan Flower Essence Project, I was curious to see if they could be integrated in my tarot practice. It has been extremely interesting to see the added layers of meanings that come up when I use them with the tarot.

I shuffle the flower cards after I lay out a spread, then lay a flower card next to any card in the spread which seems especially important or when I'm not sure which of the many possible meanings is appropriate. I have found the flower energy cards will very often illuminate the issue of the tarot card, and surprisingly, will often show a similar signature of form.

In a recent spread, the Three of Cups came up reversed (upside down). The flower card I drew to add meaning to it was Moschatel, also reversed! While not all tarot readers find significance in reversed cards, I learned to interpret reversed cards as showing the energy blocked in the issue of the card, or showing the negative traits of the card. This has resonance with the polarity concept of flower essences. For instance, I can show a need for a particular essence by exhibiting the negative aspects of the essence. When taking the appropriate essence, my attitude will shift to the positive aspects of the essence. In this case, the Three of Cups, with its image of three women celebrating together with raised cups, speaks to the issue of enjoying time spent together with friends and having fun. The image of Moschatel is remarkably similar, with the golden light of the flowers grouped together at the top of the image. This similarity is particularly notable when viewed upside down as they appeared to me. Moschatel, with the keywords of play and celebrate, is definitely telling me to lighten up and call some friends for a girls' night out!

I generally select flower cards to add a layer of meaning to the tarot cards in the positions showing subconscious issues or outside influences. Adding flower cards to these individual cards helps me understand more deeply the message, and gives me some insight into essences that can help me work with the issues involved. It adds a whole new aspect to a tarot reading, namely, what to do with the information you receive. When I integrate the flower cards into a reading I now have a few options. I often use the cards as a visual reminder of the healing message, and by softly gazing at the image I allow the spirit of the flower to work with me. There is almost always a card or two on my meditation table for me to contemplate. When a flower is particularly resonant, I will put the essence bottle out to take a few times a day. I particularly like to take a drop or two of essence and spend a few moments focusing on the image on the card, reflecting on the issue.

The major arcana card The Sun came up in a reading recently in which I was seeking insight on my challenges in manifesting abundance. The Sun speaks to release from a limiting circumstance or overcoming a personal challenge. The card was in the position of the immediate future, and when I drew a flower card, White Fireweed appeared. The message of White Fireweed is summarized in the keywords on the card ascension, completion, fulfillment, recovery, resolution, release. As I contemplated this pairing, I realized the message from the cards was that I could overcome the limited thinking I had inherited from my ancestors, many of whom had experienced poverty and extremely challenging conditions. By healing this pattern in myself, I can release the karmic patterns that keep me from manifesting abundance in my life.

Each time I integrate the flower cards in my tarot readings I am pleasantly surprised at the insights I gain, and the natural way the cards work together. I am happy to have this new tool to integrate the healing of the flowers into my spiritual practice, and am starting to see how I can integrate the cards into my professional flower essence practice. There is much to be discovered, and I plan to take the message of Moschatel to heart and have fun doing it!
I read cards for myself regularly, and I rarely use a specific layout or have any predetermined reference for any card I pull. As soon as the deck is in my hand I am intuitively guided to draw a specific number of cards, and I instinctively know whether or not any particular card may need further clarification with a second card that I place on top of it. The story or meanings are always clear and I am amazed at the messages that come through. I am prepared to hear what I don't necessarily want to hear, but what I need to know in order to move forward. Using the new Alaskan Essences 'Heart of Nature(tm) - Flower Energy Cards', along with any one of favorite oracle/tarot decks has brought a whole new light to simple readings. I pulled the following cards for myself yesterday hoping to gain insight and understanding about some significant and challenging changes that are taking place in my life because of choices I have made.

The first card, 'Stand Your Ground' is a card I pull frequently. It is in response to a lifetime of not making my needs and desires a priority, and for putting others needs before my own. I am blessed to live in a cooperative universe, so I am always being given new opportunities to make the choices that serve my own highest and best good. Today I am standing my ground for what I know to be right for me, even though my choice is causing pain and hardship for someone I love dearly, and for myself. The warrior on this card is standing strong and brave before all of creation and declaring his allegiance to his core life values and belief system. I know that learning to `stand my ground' is the core pattern and learning experience I have brought into this life to bring about the highest evolution for my soul.

The 'Horsetail' card is the perfect compliment to add another dimension of understanding to the situation. My personal relationship with Horsetail speaks to the interconnectedness between my higher self and all living things; and the interconnectedness between life on earth and the unseen worlds. The affirmations on the Horsetail card are "I communicate with all levels of my consciousness. I speak to the true selves of others from my own true self." Together these two cards remind me that standing my ground and being in alignment with what is true for me, while communicating this unequivocally through my actions, words and deeds, I am not only making shifts in my physical world, but I am opening a space for the unseen and divine realms to support my choices and provide the insight, guidance and synchronicities I need to move forward. I am also reminded of the ripple effect that our thoughts and actions have on our lives, as well as the collective universe.

The second tarot card, 'The Waiting Game' is about choice and decision. It is about no longer allowing fear and old belief systems to hold me back, it is about trusting and expecting the best, and being open to the limitless power of my intuition to attain my wanted success. It is about opening up and allowing long awaited results to come to fruition.

The 'Hairy Butterwort' card is again the perfect companion. The Keywords are Acknowledge, Faith, Grace, Guidance, Listen, Surrender and Trust. The Affirmations "I open to the harmony that is inherent in life. I move through transitions with ease, grace and deep understanding." These two cards are validating that even though making these choices may be difficult, I am in fact following my true and inherent wisdom, and no longer allowing fear or false beliefs to guide me. I am being reminded to trust and surrender to the harmony of the natural universal, and to know that even though things may look on the outside as if they are falling apart, I need to hold faith that all is unfolding for the best for all involved.

The third tarot card, 'Hope', is about wishes being fulfilled, and knowing without a doubt that the seemingly impossible can indeed become the possible. It is a reminder that thoughts become things, and by thinking positively while envisioning and 'feeling' as if what I want already 'IS', I am indeed creating and manifesting the reality I choose. It reminds me that even though things may seem to be just the opposite of what I am wanting, I am indeed connected to the source energy that is flowing through my soul and on the path toward the fulfillment my dreams,

The 'Sticky Geranium' Keywords are Activation, Focus, Efficiency, Energy, Enthusiasm and Intention. The Affirmations "I vigorously release my Divine potential into action. I step into the new with energy, excitement and ease." These are the perfect words to keep me focused on what I want, and trusting without a doubt that my choices, actions and intentions are creating the unfolding that holds the highest and best potential for everyone involved. It reminds me that this is where my power lies, and that the intelligence of my own `divine potential' is responding to and supporting my intentions.

The Flower Energy Cards have provided further gifts and deeper insights from the unseen realms, and I will continue to use them in readings for myself and for others.
